LegalXML Member Section Mission, Vision, Goals
(as adopted by Steering Committee April 27, 2004)
LegalXML Member Section Mission Statement
The OASIS LegalXML Member Section fosters open, non-proprietary standards for structuring legal documents and information using XML and related technologies.
LegalXML Member Section Vision Statement
LegalXML standards enable users of legal documents and information, including courts, legal professionals and supporting industries, criminal justice agencies, legislators, librarians, publishers, regulators and litigants to create, manage and share electronic information and records efficiently, reliably, and securely.
LegalXML Member Section Goals
1. The LegalXML Member Section produces well-defined and clearly written specifications that include architecture, data models, data element definitions, document schemas, and markup guidelines that support implementation of XML technology in the legal system for use by all who have a stake in electronic legal documents, records, and information exchanges.
2. The LegalXML Member Section involves legal document creators, vendors, academics, and users in a legal community that defines requirements, drafts, reviews, and promulgates specifications for XML-based legal documents and information transactions.
3. The LegalXML Member Section educates users of legal documents and information about the uses, significance, and benefits of XML technologies and promotes the standards developed under the auspices of OASIS, the LegalXML Member Section, and its technical committees.
Description
Uniting legal and technical experts in a common forum to create standards for electronic exchange of legal data
Group Notes
LegalXML brings legal and technical experts together to create standards for the electronic exchange of legal data.
LegalXML is an OASIS Member Section. Members themselves set the LegalXML agenda, using the open OASIS technical process expressly designed to promote industry consensus and unite disparate efforts. LegalXML produces standards for electronic court filing, court documents, legal citations, transcripts, criminal justice intelligence systems, and others.
OASIS members participating in LegalXML include lawyers, developers, application vendors, government agencies and members of academia.
