Subject: Can DITAweb display tags? (Was "Re: [dita] Updated status of DITAweb review")

No, DITAweb cannot display tags; it simply renders HTML generated from the DITA source.

If you would like to explore the possibility of using another review tool, I encourage you to do so.

I don't think you were around when we negotiated using DITAweb with OASIS; we are only allowed to use non-OASIS tooling when OASIS does not offer anything that meets our needs. In addition, a review tool needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Review comments must be visible to the general public as well as TC reviewers. (Our work as a TC must be transparent.)
  • We must have a way to generate a PDF that shows all review comments and their resolutions; we must archive that PDF in Kavi.
  • We must maintain archival copies of the reviews that we conducted using DITAweb. (This is why old reviews are still visible in DITAweb.)

I don't know if Content Fusion would meet these requirements.

Kris

Just a comment, but can DITAweb actually display tags? It'd be a much more effective review, since we are all XML-heads. FWIW, I don't want to have to compare the PDF, DITAweb, and git source when I have very little time I can allocate to reviews like this.

If tag display is not configurable in DITAweb, maybe the oXygen folks would be willing to provide an instance of Content Fusion for our reviews?

The following people still need to participate (and we will politely hound you):

1.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Dawn Stevens

2.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Zoe Lawson On vacation with no access to a computer

3.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Bill Burns

4.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Stan Doherty

5.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Eliot Kimber

6.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Joyce Lam

7.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Carsten Brennecke

If you have no comments to add, just add a comment stating so at the beginning of the DITAweb review.

Note: Please do not comment about the following:

1.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Lack of styling in DITAweb for attribute values. Look at the PDF, folks; attribute values are correctly tagged and rendered in the PDF surrounded with quotation marks.

2.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Absence of a <fallback> topic -- <fallback> is part of the base and not the multimedia domain!

Kris
