Presentational markup is being phased out, and structural/semantic markup remains (ideally). Some deprecated presentational elements: center, font, strike / s, u. Unfortunately, XHTML doesn't really evolve in a direction where it would not be concerned be with display at all, and where it would offer rich semantics. http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/lists.html#edef-DIR shows that they unfortunately don't see much value in semantic differences, "if the rendering is the same"(!). :( ...
