Take a look at Cocoon 2 from http://apache.org. It is a big powerful application framework, but it isn't too hard to set up its pipeline system to process DocBook XML files with the XSL stylesheets. It does caching. You'll need Java, though. You might want to get a third-party book such as the Cocoon Developer's Handbook to help you get started.
