It's also not forbidden by accessibility guidelines since this use is logical and legitimate. What is wrong is to use tables for layout purpose. Tables are not inherently bad. I take the opportunity of this message to thank Rene Hache for the effort he is conducting. I actually share all his views. I would also add that, just like him, I would prefer to go the XHTML 1.1 way. But as it has been demonstrated, XHTML 1.0 Transitional is "safer" for DocBook at least for now.
