OASIS XACML TC Approves Spec

OASIS eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) Technical
Committee has voted unanimously to approve its XACML 1.0 document as a
Committee Specification. The TC has begun a 30-day
public review period of the specification, which will conclude 8
December 2002, comments and feedback are requested.

RELAX NG Compact Syntax Published as an OASIS Committee Specification

The OASIS RELAX NG TC has released a committee spec for RELAX NG Compact
Syntax which describes a compact, non-XML syntax for the RELAX NG
Specification, edited by James Clark. The compact syntax is specified by
a grammar in BNF; the translation into the XML syntax is specified by
annotations in the grammar.

SAML and WS-Security Win Award

OASIS WS-Security and SAML won the PC Magazine Award for Technical
Excellence. The 19th annual awards recognize individuals and products
that advanced the state of technology and set new standards for
technical innovation in 2002. Congratulations to all the members of the
OASIS Security Services TC and the OASIS Web Services Security TC!

OASIS Members Collaborate to Advance Open XML Format for Office
Applications

On 20 November, OASIS publicly announced the formation of a new
technical committee to advance an open, XML-based file format for office
applications. This new work brings together Arbortext, Boeing, Corel,
Drake Certivo, Sun Microsystems, and others committed to establishing
standard data interoperability for documents containing text,
spreadsheets, charts, and graphs.

Localization Activity Picks Up at OASIS

A Call for Participation has been issued for the new OASIS Translation
Web Services Technical Committee. A key objective of this TC will be to
establish a complete set of business process terminology for the
software/content localization and translation industries.

LegalXML Member Section Adds Lawful Intercept

A Call for Participation has been issued for the OASIS LegalXML Lawful
Intercept (LI-XML) Technical Committee. LI-XML will assist law
enforcement and telecommunication providers in the discovery of
investigative or evidentiary records.

Content Assembly Mechanism Comes to OASIS

A Call for Participation has been issued for the OASIS Content Assembly
Mechanism (CAM) Technical Committee. CAM will allow business process
mechanisms, industry standard schemas, registry systems, and schema
mechanisms to be brought together in a consistent and standard way to
publish assembly implementation instructions.

OASIS will host a members-only reception on Wednesday, 11 Dec at XML
2002, 7:00-8:30PM. The event will celebrate the specifications that
have attained OASIS Open Standard status this year. OASIS Member

2-4 Dec--Pim van der Eijk will make a presentation at e-Nordic 2002 in
Oslo, Norway
e-Nordic 2002 is an invitation only event offering senior e-business
professionals a unique networking and learning opportunity.

4 Dec--Pim van der Eijk will make a 'UBL and ebXML' presentation at
Eurofer in Brussels, Belgium.
Eurofer is the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries.

8-13 Dec--Karl Best will present an OASIS Standards Update at XML 2002
in Baltimore, Maryland. Several member speakers are on the agenda.

10 Dec--OASIS members; Jouko Salonen, CEO Republica, and John Borras,
Office of the e-Envoy, are schedules to speak at the e-GIF and XML in
Government conference in Bristol, UK
