Subject: [odf-adoption] ODF Adoption TC Call - October 24th 2006 - Minutes
Roll Call ========= Erwin Tenhumberg, Sun Microsystems Charles Schulz, Ars Aperta Alan Clark, Novell Marino Marcic, ODF Alliance Gary Edwards, OpenDocument Foundation J. David Eisenberg, OpenDocument Foundation Louis Suarez-Potts, Individual (OpenOffice.org) Donald Harbison, IBM Robert Weir, IBM Alan Milnes, IBM Minutes ======= The minutes of 10th, 17th and 24th October were approved. ODF White Paper =============== Feedback had been sent to Erwin and it was hoped to finalise the paper this week with final approval at the meeting on 7th November. A French version was also being prepared - Charles and Louis would review. IBM paper on ODF innovations ============================ Don had issued this for review. It was IBM branded but it was felt this was OK as it was talking about what IBM was doing with ODF. Gary asked about the statement regarding the "new, simplified DOM-based programming model for ODF", Don expanded it and stated that the intention was that this work would be shared. XForms Essay ============ J. David's paper on XForms and ODF had been updated. The Committee approved the paper and Don would arrange for it to be published on the website in both ODF and PDF format. Erwin asked how many people had accessed his ODF book online - J. David would circulate the URL for accessing the stats. ODF in Action Conference ======================== Erwin raised the suggestion of a Conference regarding practical use of ODF - real world adoption, J. David suggested a BarCamp format. Queries were raised regarding the current state of tooling etc and whether this was appropriate at this stage. Don suggested the focus at the moment should be on Developer events. The idea of a competition with a prize to encourage development could be used to stimulate activity in this area. Possibly there could be different categories with a sponsor for each category. Mention was made of the ODF Symposium in March 2007 as a possible good place to announce the winners, perhaps even making the winners demonstrate their ideas at the conference. Luis would send out a draft proposal and Don would circulate details of an IBM system that has been used to manage development communities. Erwin suggested using communities to evaluate proposals but not to have the final say. A question was raised regarding Google and whether or not they could participate in this call. Erwin was in touch with a contact who would be moving back to California soon and would hope to locate someone to join. Round Table =========== Erwin reported on the news announcement that the French Ministry for Agriculture and Fishing chose OpenOffice.org based on the RGI recommendations due to the EOL of Microsoft Office 2000. Charles could neither confirm or deny the report although the sources appeared to be old. Charles reported on the launch of Firefox 2.0 in Paris when positive comments were made about ODF. The meeting was adjourned at this stage.
