Subject: [odf-adoption] ODF Adoption TC Call - November 14th 2006 - Minutes
Roll Call ========= Charles Schulz Ars Aperta Timothy Vaverchak Commonwealth of Massachusetts Louis Suarez-Potts Individual (OpenOffice.org) Alan Clark Novell Gary Edwards The OpenDocument Foundation, Inc. J Eisenberg The OpenDocument Foundation, Inc. Peter Roden, OASIS Carol Geyer, OASIS Marino Marcic, ODF Alliance Martha Mealy IBM Alan Milnes IBM Don Harbison, IBM Minutes ======= The minutes of 14th November were approved. Report from Polish meeting on Open Standards ============================================ Peter updated the group on the meeting that was held last week. It was felt that it was important to emphasise that Open Standards was wider than just ODF. It was felt that the discussions were at quite an early stage. OASIS would 1) continue to monitor developments, 2) consider writing a letter of support and offering help in policy development, 3) look at how this scales to other countries and 4) encourage the Adoption Committee / ODF Alliance to create a repository of know open standards wording in use currently. It was also suggested that we gather examples of where the failure to use standards impacts citizen's lives, e.g. requirement to use a specific Application to apply for an absentee ballot. White Paper =========== There were some minor corrections to be made so approval was tabled until the next week. Presentation ============ The committee approved the presentation Erwin had prepared. Don would arrange for it to be published on the website. Monograph for Upgrade / Novática ================================ The committee had been invited to contribute a monograph about Open Document Format, this monograph will be published in the December issue of Upgrade and the November-December issue of Novática. Don would work with Erwin and Charles to produce a first draft based on the work already done. ODF Contest =========== Carol was supportive of the proposal for a contest but there was a lot of details to be resolved. Don had provided details of how IBM had run a recent contest, this included an education session with a small prize for completing that stage. Carol and Gary would liaise off-line. Roundtable =========== Alan Clark provided his perspective on the recent Novell - Microsoft deal, he felt it was a positive development for ODF. Alan Clark took the action to clarify Novell's strategy to support OOXML from the perspective of the OpenOffice Novell Edition product offering. The meeting was adjourned at this stage.
