Subject: [tm-pubsubj] January 29 co-call - cost and optimization.
Almost everyone has answered that he/she would participate in next Tuesday co-call. Great. That means we should be 12 on the phone, which raises two issues. 1. Organization and efficiency. I've never participated in - not to speak about coordinating - calls with so many people. Has somebody some experience of that and tips/suggestions to make it as efficient as can be ? 2. Cost. Since I've not found out from France any better solution, we'll go through France-Telecom services again. FYI, the cost of this service is charged to the call organizer on a basis of about 12 Euros/participant/hour, plus a fixed 12 Euros - whatever the duration and number of participants. That means 300 Euros for 12 people for 2 hours *for the service only*. This cost has been supported by Mondeca so far, but there were less participants. That does not include the cost of each participant connection to the number, that everyone will have to take in charge. I assume that altogether, the added cost of all those individual charges will amount to at least something like the above figure. Which means the total distributed cost of this meeting will be more than 600 Euros (more than $500) I wonder if Germany or UK or US based telecom services would not provide cheaper solutions. If someone has something better to offer, if not for this conference, for the next one, he/she should move forward. Of course Mondeca will continue to support the charge of general organization, but we can't escape asking everyone to participate to the global cost ... Mondeca is not Sun nor Boeing nor Schlumberger ... (so far). In Montréal, we had talked about distributing the cost on alternatively Mondeca - Empolis - Ontopia, which has not be done so far ... But I suppose Empolis will sponsor XMLVoc TC and Ontopia will sponsor GeoLang TC, so ... Meanwhile, to avoid unnecessary costs: 1. If you have last minute impossibility, please try to e-mail me, up to 15' before the call I can ask for a change in capacity. 2. Maybe we could cut the call time by half an hour? My experience of the previous calls is that people are hardly productive after one hour and a half ... Suggestions welcome. I've booked the call anyway, but would like to have your comments on that before posting the number - in a specific message. Bernard
