Subject: UBL 1.0 SBS released as OASIS Committee Specification
It is my great pleasure to announce the release of the UBL 1.0 Small Business Subset (SBS) as an OASIS Committee Specification. The SBS CS is a completed technical specification based on the OASIS UBL 1.0 Standard and is now available for general use at http://docs.oasis-open.org/ubl/cs-UBL-1.0-SBS-1.0/ Intended for small businesses and their software providers, the UBL 1.0 SBS specifies how businesses, perhaps large enterprises using the full capabilities of the UBL 1.0 Standard, should formally comply with the requirements of trading partners implementing just a minimal subset of UBL capabilities. The SBS also provides an initial target for software vendors just beginning to implement processing of UBL 1.0 documents such as purchase orders and invoices. Since all documents conforming to the SBS also conform to the UBL 1.0 Standard, no new UBL document schemas are provided as part of the SBS release. To facilitate the use of UBL in an ebXML framework, the OASIS UBL Small Business Subcommittee has worked with the OASIS ebXML Business Process (ebBP) TC to produce a set of ebBP (also called BPSS) 2.0 process definitions and corresponding templates. This allows the production of ebXML CPPA artefacts for use in conjunction with UBL 1.0 documents, thus enabling trading partners to specify particular document subsets like the SBS in ebXML transactions. This collaboration, including a minor modification of ebBP 2.0, was made possible by close cooperation between the two OASIS technical committees and by the lucky coincidence of their schedules for OASIS Committee Specifications. The SBS artefacts supporting ebXML implementation are included in the SBS package under the title "Universal Business Process (UBP) 1.0." The co-chairs of the UBL SBSC, Stephen Green and G. Ken Holman, wish to thank the ebBP for its help in developing ebXML support in SBS. Thanks are due also to the UBL and ebXML user communities for their help, ideas, and encouragement in the creation of this set of business document and process definitions. Jon Bosak Chair, OASIS UBL TC
