Steve, I'm sure this is the W3C use case for this - something like the Library of Congress - their books - or the patent office - or Googles scanning of classic literature - reams of content in XML - such as ODF or OOXML - that runs to megabytes of stuff - and compressing that - because the ODF and OOXML viewers will handle that compress/decompress automagically (MS Word 2007 already stores its docs as a ZIP right now). But for general XML use - transactions - forms - using REST - et al - this just something that gets in the way of getting hold of the raw XML itself...
