Subject: RE: [ubl-dev] eInvoicing - Help California make the right choice - Please vote
Mikkel, David et al, While the links you posted are interesting David, there clearly
is not at present any kind of broad program to implement e-invoicing with more than
a few suppliers. The 1995 paper re EDI programs (1995!!) cites some of the
numbers. I’ve been in touch with some a very senior, well connected individual
who had attempted (back in 2007/8) to sell an e-invoicing project at the level
of the governor’s / CIO’s office, and was also in touch with P.K. Agarwal. He
and other senior leaders do actually get it. There was significant interest in
a UBL-based approach. At the time, I had educated him on the Danish project and
experience. But the bottom line was (and probably remains) that the state has
huge budget problems that make it hard to act. There was also huge political push-back
from the unions. On top of all that, even if these individuals buy in to the
idea, any project then has to go out to a public bid process. It ended up as
just a huge waste of time and effort. “California is likely to remain a mess
for some time” (his words, not mine). I added my vote to the site you linked to, Mikkel – but based on
what I hear, I wouldn’t invest too much time on this one. Btw, there’s an exciting deal my company, Traxian, is working on
with one of the US and global leaders in this space. Mikkel, I notice you’ve
now moved to the private sector with some others from the Danish project. We
should perhaps catch up again soon (off this list). Best, Roger From: David RR Webber
(XML) [mailto:david@drrw.info] Mikkel, Seems like you are wanting to hit the wrong nail with your UBL
hammer! ; -) CA is actually asking for help with replacing its aging COBOL
systems. They have already implemented electronic invoicing
starting in 1995!!!
