Subject: Corrected minutes of Pacific UBL TC call 10|11 September 2007
[Missing word restored.]
MINUTES OF PACIFIC UBL TC MEETING
TUESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2007
ATTENDANCE
Jon Bosak (chair)
G. Ken Holman
Andy Schoka
Tim McGrath (vice chair)
STANDING ITEMS
Additions to the calendar:
http://ibiblio.org/bosak/ubl/calendar.htm
None.
Subcommittee report: PSC
A meeting has been called for 17 September.
Subcommittee report: TSC
AS: Working constructively on Danish transportation
requirements. TM has prepared and posted some material for
review showing how info items added to the shipment and
consignment object classes can move us from the current UBL
model of one shipment equals one consignment to a model that
supports one-to-many in both directions.
In answer to a question from AS, GKH demonstrated how google
spreadsheets can be used to support real-time distributed
editing of the data models. The service is free and appears
to work extremely well. It was agreed that this is a real
breakthrough in enabling collaborative review of proposed
data models during conference calls without the overhead of
webex sessions.
Review of Atlantic call
GKH: WRT the namespace proposal:
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl/200709/msg00004.html
The biggest argument against both name- and namespace-based
filtering is changes in cardinality.
No other comments.
Support page submissions
No external submissions this week.
ACTION: GKH to submit a revised description of the Crane
resources, JB to update Support Page accordingly.
UBL TC MEETING IN STOCKHOLM 24-28 SEPTEMBER 2007
A placeholder for updates to the draft agenda:
http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl/200709/msg00008.html
2008 TC WORK SCHEDULE
(Was: ACTION (8/14): JB to make a timeline that fits the work into
the OASIS TC process.)
A discussion concluded that we have so much new material for
UBL 2.1 that we might as well go ahead and roll the Update
Package into that release.
AGREED to set the Manhattan TC meeting (2008.01.28-02.01) as
the target for the first draft of 2.1 spreadsheets and updates,
with the intention of reviewing the drafts at that meeting and
coming out of it ready to begin initial schema production using
Ubler.
ACTION: JB to deliver project timeline (including the former
pieces of the Update Package) by COB 21 September.
UPDATE PACKAGE
All items relating to the Update Package are now part of 2.1.
UPDATE ITEM FROM MANHATTAN
Moved here from the Atlantic agenda.
ACTION: GKH to write up the "Candidate Decision Regarding Code
List Support" as amended 10 May 2007.
AGREED that this document appears to be irrelevant in the
current cycle given the decision to roll the update into 2.1.
However, it will need to be revisited for interim updates
following the release of 2.1.
CL TRANSFER (TRACKING)
ACTION: JB to add to the update work list the items relating to
the CLR TC decision to take over the CL Methodology work.
Revised: Include these items in the 2.1 project matrix.
2008 TC MEETING SCHEDULE
28 Jan - 1 Feb 2008 in Manhattan (Hotel Bedford recommended)
This date has now been confirmed. Participants can (and
probably should) begin making travel plans. Note that hotel
rates will be substantially higher closer to the meeting date.
March 2008 in Rome (together with UBL International Day)
Discussion still in progress among the organizers of the ID.
August 2008 in Montréal
Two possibilities: the week of 4 August or the week of 11
August, depending on the scheduling of the Extreme Markup
Languages conference the week before.
January 2009 in Fremantle
Still tentative.
PACIFIC ACTION ITEMS FROM MANHATTAN (TRACKING)
ACTION: PSC and TSC to provide feedback on UBL 2.0 SBS 2.0:
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/23873
Pending.
ACTION: PSC and TSC to summarize business rules that are (1)
wanted in UBL but not allowed by [i.e., capable of being
addressed by] the NDR (e.g., requirement to include one of
PartyName and PartyIdentifier but not both) and (2) data items
whose constraints are inherited from another standard (e.g.,
lengths of data items specified by UNTDED); the rules so
identified to become candidates for a list of schematron
assertions "recommended to be included" (final characterization
TBD).
AGREED that this is now of higher priority than the
preceding item and should be done as part of 2.1 model
specification (using the column "analyst's notes").
TC CONCALL SCHEDULE
As always, the UBL TC will not hold conference calls the weeks
before and after the next f2f. Therefore, our concall schedule
for the next few weeks is as follows:
Week of 09/17: NO PHONE MEETINGS
Week of 09/24: NO PHONE MEETINGS (F2F IN STOCKHOLM)
Week of 10/01: NO PHONE MEETINGS
Week of 10/08: Pacific and Atlantic calls as usual
Jon Bosak
