Subject: Meeting minutes (2023-06-20)

Dear all,

Please find below a summary of discussion of 2023-06-06 XLIFF-TC call.

Best regards,

Yoshito

-----------------------------

Attendance: Rodolfo, Mihai, Yoshito. We have quorum

I. Administration

A. Approved May June 6th meeting minutes: https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xliff/202306/msg00001.html

II. Technical work

A. Message format supporting modules (Mihai)

  • Plural and Gender modules proposed spec.
  • Mihai wanted some help on editing tool for DocBook
    • Rodolfo suggested Oxygen and XMLmind
  • Mihai needs more time to convert current format to DocBook. Target – later in this week.

B. Resource item description (Yoshito)

  • Yoshito created a Git issue - https://github.com/oasis-tcs/xliff-xliff-22/issues/25
  • Discussed 2 options
    • Option 1 – New attribute in <reourceItem> element
    • Option 2 – Allow <notes> element within <resourceItem> element
  • Rodolfo prefers Option 1 because it’s less impacts to existing implementation. Mihai agrees.
  • Looked around if any common XLIFF attribute can be used for this, and discussed “equiv”, but agreed it is not good.
  • Yoshito will send an e-mail to the XLIFF mailing list about what was discussed.

C. Next steps to review the new spec.

  • Rodolfo updated the HTML/PDF version earlier in the week. This includes the changes done by Mihai for the inline element example discussed in the previous meeting.

III. Promotion and Liaison

A. ISO standard status updates

  • ISO TC 37 SC 5 agreed XLIFF will be processed as an ISO standard using the fast track mechanism.
  • They can proceed next step without using the ISO template.

B. Message format working group updates (if any) – Mihai

  • No specific updates.
  • Rodolfo asked about how function registration works.
  • Brainstormed how to handle custom function through XLIFF.
