Subject: Corrected Minutes of XRI TC Telecons Wed 2005-10-19 and Friday 2005-10-21
[Corrected version - Kunal was present on Wednesday's call too.] -----Original Message----- From: Drummond Reed [mailto:drummond.reed@cordance.net] Sent: Monday, October 24, 2005 9:19 AM To: xri@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [xri] Minutes of XRI TC Telecons Wed 2005-10-19 and Friday 2005-10-21 Following are the minutes of the unofficial XRI TC calls held 8:30-10:00AM PT on Wednesday 2005/10/19 and Friday 2005/10/21 WEDNESDAY 2005/10/19 Present: Drummond Gabe Mike Steve Kunal 1) CONCEPTUAL MODEL We spent this call discussing the conceptual models behind XRI resolution as currently laid out in Committee Draft 01 and as motivated by the proposals reflected on the wiki at http://wiki.oasis-open.org/xri/Xri2Cd02/ResolutionChanges. It was agreed that there is a proposed shift in the conceptual model about what an XRI Descriptor document describes. This proposed shift would generalize XRI resolution to enable simple description of any service endpoint associated with an XRI-identified resource, and would enable the same trust model currently employed by XRI trusted authority resolution to be employed by any other service. It was agreed that this proposed shift in the conceptual model needed more discussion and would continue on Friday's call. FRIDAY 2005/10/21 Present: Drummond Mike Steve Gabe Victor Dave Kunal Mohit Ajay 1) SCOPE OF XRI RESOLUTION Gabe submitted a proposal that addresses the concept of where XRI resolution fits: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/15006/HTTP-Aligned%20Resol ution.doc We spent the call discussing the conceptual model that this document suggests, in which XRI resolution is focused primarily on obtaining the authoritative HTTP endpoint from which to further interact with a resource. In essence Gabe's proposal is to simplify XRI resolution to two types of interactions that both involving algorithms for HTTP URI construction: authority resolution, and what is currently X2R service. Then all other interactions would be based on discovery from the X2R endpoint. The feedback on the call was that while these two methods of interaction are important, XRIDs currently provide a simple service endpoint discovery mechanism which is highly useful. Losing this simple service endpoint discovery mechanism, or moving it into another specification that requires another interaction roundtrip, may not be the best way to optimize the value of XRI resolution. 2) NEXT CALL It was agreed that we should continue telecons at least weekly until the Committee Draft 02 cycle is complete. To accommodate India (but probably not Japan), these calls will be at 8:30am Pacific time on Fridays. If there is sufficient demand, we can also continue to hold Asia/US calls on Thursday nights. # ACTION ITEM: Drummond will update the TC calendar to reflect the Friday calls. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this mail list, you must leave the OASIS TC that generates this mail.
