Minutes of the Face-To-Face Joint Meeting between CIQ TC and Election and Voting Services TC Date: 14 December 2001 Time: 9:30-12:30pm Venue: Asia 4 Room, Walt Disney Dolphin Hotel, Florida Attendees: CIQ: Ram Kumar, Marcus Goncalves EVS: John Borras, Asst.Director, Interoperability and Metadata, Office of the e-Envoy, UK Govt John Ross, MD, Security and Standards, UK Gregg McGilvary, Chief Technical Strategist, election.com, USA Apologies: CIQ: David Webber - Ram explained the history behind CIQ standards and how CIQ is important and why it is application independent - Ram demonstrated CIQ and a copy of the demonstration was given to the Johns' - Ram the explained how CIQ fits into the EVS TC who are defining global standards for election and voting services. This generated lot of interest within the EVS group - Ram explained the difficulty in finding more members into the technical committee given the area being "niche", the drawbacks of having a small committee and at the same time the advantages of it - Ram mentioned about the work done by James Robert, a new member of CIQ TC, in the area of postal addresses in UK. John Borras was keen to contact Robert and therefore, Ram to get James in touch with John. - John Borras mentioned that his UK cabinet e-Envoy group will be keen to join the CIQ committee and would advocate the use of CIQ standards to his group - Gregg will talk to his contacts about CIQ standards and try to get them interested. - It was suggested that the CIQ should maintain templates of how the xNAL standards could be customised to a specific country. Ram told that it is too hard job for CIQ to do it as it is outside the scope of CIQ. Johns' suggested that they will provide a template for UK country addresses and CIQ can manage all the templates on its web site and Ram readily agreed to it. However, Ram clarified that CIQ will not produce any such templates, but would welcome any templates and would maintain them. - Karl Best of OASIS spent few minutes during the meeting and it was suggested to Karl to provide the committees with the OASIS namesapaces for the XML schemas developed by committees and Karl took it as an action. - John Ross has developed a table of standards available in the industry now for the interoperability summit. John promised to send a copy of the standards doc. to Ram. - Johns' and Gregg to get back to Ram after discussing with their groups about using CIQ standards.
