TC.OUTREACH last updated: 5 November 2001 (this document describes the outreach we need to perform for the TC) ----------------------------------- INTRODUCTION ------------------- This document describes the manner and scope of our outreach. The HumanMarkup TC, although having gained a lot of interest (and criticism) thus far, has yet to have the consistent participation of a wide variety of individuals and organizations, whose contributions are absolutely necessary for this endeavor to be successful. One of the reasons has been the lack of stable infrastructure within the group with which we could properly organize and incorporate ideas. At of the end of October, this infrastructure seems to have been put in place. Initial subcommittees and liaisons are being formed within this TC and between other TCs. Roles are clarified between all the core members. A database currently exists whereby contributors and contacts are logged, and a set of core building block documents exist. Thus, we must pay attention to once again garnering support and active interest from the community within, and at large. ONGOING PROCESS ------------------- 1) END USER SURVEY ------------------ -distributed to current TC participants -distributed to broader community -Ask "introductory" questions -Ask prototype application they would like to design 2) DEVELOP AFFILIATIONS WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF PARTIES ------------------ 2) AFFILIATIONS AND NETWORKING (through HumanMarkup.org, Inc, TC, or member section -- to be determined) ---------------- - those who demonstrate *non-technical interest* - those who demonstrate *technical interest* - press/news interested in publishing about effort (coordinate with Carol) - parties who may *utilize* the specs, or subset of specs - parties who may want to *develop* specs, or subset of specs - parties who can provide *authority* for specs - parties who can serve as *liaisons* or intermediates - parties who are interested in *sponsoring* parts of the effort 3) SME (subject matter expert) CONTRIBUTIONS ---------------------- -encourage subject matter experts through personal contacts/industry contacts -technical experts -XML, RDF, -non technical experts -anthropologists, linguists, psychologist, mediators, diplomats -self-proclaimed experts -public at large -solicit support from other TCs, newsgroups 4) STIMULATE DISCUSSION (while INCORPORATING IDEAS PROPERLY) ------------------------- -ask questions on a wide variety of topics, beyond current goals and objectives -ask direct, open-ended questions (even if controversial) 5) ADDITIONAL POINTS ------------------------- A Working Example: Each new contributor should present 'one idea' each...one example that can serve as a strawman in each of their minds, which will anchor their interests. Instant accountability: Each new contributor would start out determining what they would like to be accountable. They are immediately determined a role/expertise to play. Verbal Commitment: Although we aren't enforcing anything since this is a voluntary effort, we would need to make it known that there is a certain level of commitment involved. Provide a "launching ramp": Customize a "launching ramp" for each visitor, with explicit directions on how they can navigate their way into the discussion, and ultimately contribute documents based on their insight. Further, provide a "general launching ramp" for people to jump in even without our explicit and personal response. Follow Up: Follow up with interested parties until they feel integrated with the efforts.
