Meeting

12:00        roll call

12:05        review of minutes and actions from last meeting.

12:10        F2F logisitics

Draft agenda is on the email list. Wednesday (WSRP/WSIA joint interfaces day) is open to anyone from either committee who wishes to attend, it should allow drilldown on the relationships between the two groups.

Probably need to do more work understanding relationship of WSIA to Joint Interfaces and Embedded. Need to look at Carstenâs doc to see how the WSRP understanding relates to ours. There are 4 docs relevant to this ö 2 requirements docs + the WSRP 1.0 interface spec + the 0.44 draft Joint Interfaces spec. The task is probably bigger than just aligning interfaces, want to push some requirements down into the Embedded case. So weâll aim to have doc walkthroughs prior to the F2F. As editors, Jeff, Alan and Carsten are currently reviewing the joint interfaces spec and the WSRP interface spec.

action ö all: So 1 week from today will go through the latest joint interfaces spec, and 2 weeks from today aim to go through the WSRP 1.0 spec.

Also need to be considering commonality with the Coordinated case, eg property management protocol. WSRP has just been discussing the Administrator interface, we should look at the idea of runtime properties for that too.

IBM have released an alphaworks implementation of the WSXL position paper.

12:15        Glossary, Jeff.

Monica raised a question in email, as to whether it was proper to have dropped some possibly relevant security terms from the glossary. Accepted that we didnât want it to turn into an OASIS glossary, but where terms used in WSIA might differ or carry more specific meaning from general understanding we should probably keep them in the glossary for clarity.

Rex, Dan and Monica volunteered to help out with the glossary, reviewing/adding terms.

12:20        Joint interfaces status, Alan.

0.44 spec in circulation from Rich. Reminder that Joint Interfaces group telecon occurs Tuesdays at 12:00 EST. Itâs getting to a good level of detail now.

Alan walked through the doc at a high level.

- Raised notion of transient and persistent entities ö transient pretty much synonymous with with session info, key difference that the ăsessionä handle could be shared across producers. In WSRP they may want to allow the container to hold the session handle.

- Lifecycle: Create entity, WSRP entity is the portlet. WSRP have templates, which are persistent configurations of portlets, not yet on a page. Portlets are the instances on the page, so the distinction between templates and instances is whether they get assembled into a presentation. Not sure yet whether onpage/offpage is a first-class distinction that can be applied across the board. So some further discussion needed here.

Need to look at how property values in WSRP and WSIA are handled. (Mainly design time in WSRP). WSIA may be exposing the ămodelä via property values, and WSRP focused more on the ăviewä via design time property setting. Maybe WSRP is not far enough along in its deliberations to have not seen the need for runtime property setting, or maybe portal apps function differently from WSIA, not really requiring runtime property setting.

action: Alan - probably missing from the doc is the mechanism to piggyback property values on getMarkup() calls. Might get back property changes along with the markup too. Needs adding. Itâs there in perfomAction, but not in getFragment().

Where next? ö waiting on WSRP commentary. Mike Friedman circulated requirements and a couple of different models for the portlet lifecycle, thatâs for next Tuesdayâs discussion.

12:40        Customization, Tim

Have produced doc of usage scenarios. Since last F2F have been sketching out high level protocol, now about half-way through. Aim to wrap it up for the F2F and get into Technical Requirements after the F2F. Minutes from the subcommitee have been sent out, along with usage scenarios and a ppt of an XForms architectural approach.

Currently wrestling with issue of ăsimplicityä of architecture ö Can we have a ăblack boxä approach where properties can be set on the producer outside of the consumer-producer messaging, or do we have to get into monitoring the invocations and interject values. The last subcommittee action was to compare these approaches and also review the WebCollage IWS callback mechanism.

Customization seems to bleed over into Coordination in the ăLiveIndyä (Sports Portal scenario) where multiple producers are being invoked. Reinforces the need for looking at both together.

12:55        Other stuff, Charlie

Rich has been adding into the requirements doc based on email conversations.

action: all ö Original plan was to turn in IP disclosures at the F2F. That would probably still be ok, but preferably send in advance (asac) to Charlie and copy Karl Best.

action: all ö Looking for a volunteer for Secretary to take over from Graeme, probably starting with minute taking at the next meetings leading into the F2F. Apply to Charlie.
