Job Title: Publications Specialist
The Publications Specialist works in the Standards Development group and reports to the Director of Standards Development/Technical Committee Administrator. This group is responsible for providing guidance to our Technical Committee Chairs and Members with regard to the relevant Policies as well as ensuring that all specifications, documents, and other information assets produced by our Technical Committees meet the requisite level of quality.
The main area of responsibility involves reviewing work products to ensure they meet our requirements. After a thorough review, the Technical Committees are notified of any and all issues needing to be resolved before the work products may progress. The TC may or may not ask for assistance in making the required changes (either providing instructions on how accomplish a particular editing task or actually editing the documents themselves). This is extremely meticulous, detail-oriented work. Additionally, the Publications Specialist will assist in the creation and maintenance of document templates for a variety of document types such as white papers, requirements, and user guides for use in Microsoft Office, Open Office, and HTML.
This is a contractor position for 20 hours/week which may expand into a full-time position. We are offering $20-25 an hour, negotiable on experience. The successful candidate will work from home and must have high speed internet access, telephone access, and the appropriate computer software/hardware to perform the duties described below.
Duties:
Responsible for providing quality checks on documents and related materials produced by OASIS Technical Committees prior to public posting for open reviews or ballot consideration. This is extremely meticulous, detail-oriented work. Additionally, may be responsible for making modifications to existing templates and/or creation of templates for new formats or information types.
Other tasks as may be assigned.
Skills required:

Expert in the use of Microsoft Office, including creation and use of styles, hypertext linking, and cross-references

Expert in the use of OpenOffice Writer, including creation and use of styles, hypertext linking, and cross-references

Proficient in HTML, including use of Cascading Style Sheets

Proficient in the use of an HTML editor, or in hand-coding HTML
-
Solid understanding of both print and web-based publishing
Skills Preferred:

Additional XML Document formats, including:
-
Familiarity with technical documentation or reference publishing practices.
Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in English or related discipline

Experience preparing/editing/reviewing technical documents

Proficiency in MS Word, OpenOffice, and HTML

Knowledge of internet-related document production such as hypertext linking and file transfer protocols

Extremely detail-oriented

Ability to interact with diverse technical communities

Ability to work independently

Quick turnaround required on all assignments
