BACKGROUND: After XLIFF 1.1 peer review process concludes, our original plan was to submit to OASIS Standards Review. It was proposed that we change the timing of our submission so that we author guidelines and recommendations for Profiles of at least some of the major resource types (HTML - JSP, and Java Properties Files, Windows RC are examples). This work will significantly delay the submission of XLIFF 1.1 to the standards review process - probably by 6 months. On the other hand, without profiles to guide them, early adopters may develop non-interchangeable XLIFF 1.1 implementations, thus subverting the spirit and the charter of XLIFF.
The TC will now vote on whether we FIRST submit our spec to the OASIS Standards Review panel, or if we DELAY the submission until we develop common resource profiles. |
