Pete Wenzel learned at the OASIS Joint Security TC that a face to face is planned for March, and raised the possibility of having a CPPA meeting at that time (Possibly March 10 or 24). We will consider this option. Dale mentioned that the ebXML JC had considered maintenance and rechartering question. CPPA is the only group that by charter needs to update its charter at this point.
Sub-team Reports
Marty reported that the Negotiation draft needs more reviewers. Monica, Marty, and Tony F. reviewed the complexity of the "BPSS instance" nomenclature. Monica believed that a definitive resolution was not here yet. Dale proposed that perhaps Marty could just make clear in the Negotiation document how we were using the term, and that would suffice. BPSS could always raise an issue if they thought the terminological conventions adopted were confusing.
Tony F. reported that he had sent out a draft to the CPPA BTP list responding to Monica's reviews.
CPPA.Next
Dale raised the question of focus for the next 12 to 18 months efforts. Beyond negotiation and transaction efforts underway, and the possible need for maintenance, Dale proposed that we focus on the deferred issue of our approach to extensibility. This would allow new capabilities that emerge in BTP, SAML, XMLEncryption, Xacml, WSS, and elsewhere to be documented by a brief extension document.
Tony Fletcher reminded us that he had proposed some direction in a message a couple of weeks ago (much compatible with a focus on defining the ways to add extensions). Tony's and all other suggestions will be considered throughout December meetings. We need to produce a draft charter update this month. [Tony F will take the vacation option Dec 13, however.]
Jamie said that:
- we should not lose track of the core business value of the specification and technology, nor the current installed base
- we should proceed so that a simpler, easier to use CPPA solution might be defined.
Errata Candidate
Dale noted that there had been discussion concerning what attribute value was used for Role, the "name" attribute or the "xlink:href" attribute. This may need an errata to clarify, and is the only known interoperability issue known for Version 2.0 (so far). Hima advocated using the xlink:href value, and explained advantages of that approach.
URLs for archived messages to be added to final version.
Future Topics
Dale introduced future topics of Docbook usage for specifications, PartyID reviews needed,
Next Meeting
The next teleconference will be on December 13.
