Minutes of CPPA Negotiation Conference Call Dec. 4, 2002

Attendees:  Marty Sachs, Dale Moberg, Jean Zheng, Venkat Danda

Marty announced that he will be retiring from IBM on Feb. 1, 2003.  He said that he hopes to find a way to continue his work on the CPPA team and the negotiation subteam after he retires.

Marty said that he is making an effort to produce a new draft specification before next week’s conference call.  He has sorted out a large number of open matters.  He still has to edit and incorporate the recent new textual material on messages and NDD. The newest NDD schema and instance document, and the improved negotiation BPSS instance document, will also be included.  Change tracking will be turned on in the new draft.

We discussed Jean’s recent question about the need to identify in which negotiation round each item was accepted. After some discussion, it was agreed that there is no need to do that. Jean’s current design keeps track of all acceptances without regard to which round.  The design also records the latest insertions, deletions, and changes.  She pointed out that the information in the messages really functions as pointers to the places in the CPA-under-construction which contain the details. She assumes that each Party will be building the new CPA as the negotiation progresses and thus locally has all the information about accepts etc. She will improve the textual explanation.

Dale has reviewed the open question of negotiability of trust anchors.  He believes that the specification is correct but needs more explanation.  Jean will provide this explanation in the message section.

The messages now include an optional callback address to enable asynchronous messaging to be used. The new text includes the conclusions of most open work items on messaging.

We reviewed the remaining open work items.

Marty will place the October 17, 2002 draft on the negotiation web site documents page for ready reference.  He will include both the PDF and the Word file.  Everyone is urged to review the draft and comment.  Comments MUST reference the line numbers in the PDF. Reviews by everyone are essential to being able to document that there is a consensus.

The call was adjourned at 3:15 PM US Eastern time.

Respectively submitted,

Marty Sachs
