ebXML-CPPA Negotiation SubTeam Minutes, April 10, 2002

Minutes: Heiko Ludwig, Marty Sachs

Attendance

Heiko Ludwig (IBM)

Marty Sachs (IBM)

Neelakantan Kartha (Sterling Commerce)

Subject of the discussion was Kartha’s paper “Potential Components of the NDD” from April 9, 2002.

The call went through the list of elements of the CPPA referred to in the paper and discussed whether these elements could be subject to automated negotiation as approached by this working group.

It was proposed to categorize elements into three buckets:

1.      Not negotiable because of the subject matter, e.g. an organization’s name.

2.      Negotiable in principle but requires (most likely) complex decision-making and human intervention.

3.      Negotiable in the course of an automated negotiation process.

PartyId type: Category 3.  This may have to be negotiated since one or both parties may not understand all PartyID types.

CPP version attribute:  Category 3. Both parties should be working with the same CPP version.

CollaborationRole: Category 2, because decision-making can be very complex in the case of more than one process / BPSS referred to in the CPP/A. Category 2 arises if both CPPs specify that the party can play both roles.  Human intervention is needed to decide which party plays which roles.  The case where party1 plays one role and party2 can play both roles is category 3. Party2 is assigned the role opposite to party1’s role. Human intervention (category 2) is also needed if both CPPs reference several different processes.

ApplicationCertificateRef: Issue: how to pick a certificate. This is on an application level and will not be addressed at the moment.

ApplicationSecurityDetailsRef: See  directly above.

Service: probably category 1, if not process is specified

The call was adjourned at 3:45 PM EDT.
