Minutes of CPPA Negotiation Conference Call September 25, 2002

Attendees:  Neelakantan Kartha, Monica Martin, Marty Sachs

Kartha plans to post some comments and questions about the NDD to the negotiation listserver this week.  He will also post an instance document containing a subset of the NDD he is designing.

In answer to Monica’s questions, Marty said:

·        Regarding including a new NDD with a counter offer, the consensus was to leave that function for beyond version 1.  For now, if the recipient of an initial offer does not like the offered NDD, the recipient should reject the initial offer and then submit a new initial offer with its own NDD, perhaps taking into account the NDD that was sent with the original offer.

·        Adding an item of negotiation that wasn’t in the original NDD amounts to a new NDD and so is for beyond version 1.

·        Regarding dependencies on the order of negotiation, the discussion so far indicates that defining ordering dependencies is of interest but we need a stronger example of a case that won’t work except in a particular order.  Marty said that he is going to ask around his local environment for ideas on how to express a dependency graph in the NDD.

Marty pointed out that his main concern about adding function relates to the rapid approach of December 31, by which time we want to have a draft specification that could be submitted to OASIS. He suggested that in particular, we should consider any new function that requires significant changes to the current negotiation BPSS instance document as out of scope for version 1.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:35 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Marty Sachs
