Chapter 80. Change Username and Password

How to Change Username and Password

Depending on the path you took to this tool, you may have already performed the Search and Select steps. For tips on using the search tools, see the page help for the Manage a User tool.

Review the user's information to confirm that this is the user whose username or password you wish to change.

Change Password

This user's current username is displayed. To change this user's username, enter the new username in this field.

Usernames must be between 6 and 25 characters long and cannot contain special characters (i.e., #, @, ?, |, /).

Current Password

This user's current password is displayed, if unencrypted. If encrypted, this field will display '[Encrypted].'

Enter New Password

To change this user's password manually, enter the new password in this field.

Passwords must be between 6 and 25 characters long and cannot contain special characters (i.e., #, @, ?, |, /).

Re-enter New Password

Enter the new password again.

Send User Login Link

Select 'Yes' if you would like to send the user an email notification of the change, including a login link.

This email notification is based on the 'Password Changed Email' email template. To review and customize this email message, use the Manage Email Templates tool.

It is generally recommended that the 'Yes' option be selected so that the user will be automatically informed of the change. If 'No' is selected, the administrator will need to take further action to communicate information about the new username and password to the user.

Activity Note

Add an Activity Note to this user's record for future reference. Once created, these notes cannot be edited, so they become a part of the User Activity History, which is only viewable through Admin Area Tools and Report Area Tools.

You've just changed this user's username or password (or both)! Click Change Another if you have another user whose username or password you would like to change.
