OASIS OSLC and ProSTEP iViP to cooperate on industry standards for smart information flow

Darmstadt/Boston, MA – 15 January 2015 –Two international standards groups, the OASIS consortium and the ProSTEP iViP Association, announced an agreement to coordinate their work on standards for smart information flows in industrial engineering environment.

The move was inspired by ProSTEP iViP’s Code of PLM Openness (CPO) that aims to address basic business requirements for realizing agility and flexibility in complex IT environments.

The OASIS OSLC (Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration) Member Section advances a suite of standards and interoperability integration patterns that are used for linking lifecycle information in a smart way. ProSTEP iViP develops the STEP and JT standards, which are prominently used for mechanical engineering.

“At ProSTEP iViP and OASIS OSLC, we’re seeing the same trends–a decrease of decisions, migrations toward big solid-state systems in industry, and a renewed commitment to standards,” said Dr. Steven Vettermann, General Manager at ProSTEP iViP Association. “The age of isolated expert systems is over. Now is the time of integration. Our members realize the permeability of existing information silos and appreciate the importance of establishing integrated process flows across disciplines as well as company borders.”

“Pragmatic solutions that address industrial needs do not have to be realized under one roof, but the pieces do need to fit with one another and the result has to be beneficial for end-users,” added John Wiegand, Chair of the OASIS OSLC Steering Committee. “Combining existing standards can help to bridge the gap between ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) and PLM. OASIS and ProSTEP iViP understand these challenges and will work together to foster cooperation and communications between our working groups.”
