OASIS Awards 2015 Open Standards Cup and Names Distinguished Contributors

Second annual awards are presented to Key Management Interoperability Protocol and Context Server Technical Committees; Monica Palmirani and Patrick Durusau are named Distinguished Contributors

24 August 2015 – The international OASIS consortium has awarded the 2015 Open Standards Cup to the Technical Committees of Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) and Context Server (CXS). The annual Open Standards Cup recognizes exceptional advancements within the IT community and includes two awards: Outstanding Accomplished TC and Outstanding New TC. The consortium also honored Monica Palmirani of the University of Bologna CIRSFID and Patrick Durusau, an independent consultant, as OASIS Distinguished Contributors.

Open Standards Cup Recipients

Named the 2015 Outstanding Accomplished TC, KMIP works to enable the interoperability of key management servers and clients. The KMIP TC is co-chaired by Saikat Saha of Oracle and Tony Cox of Cryptsoft, with Robert Lockhart of Thales e-Security as Secretary.

“This award recognizes the quality of the KMIP standard and the thought leadership of the KMIP TC members. It also validates overall industry’s commitment to interoperability,” said Saikat Saha of Oracle.

“For six consecutive years, the RSA conference has featured multi-vendor demonstrations of KMIP interoperability,” added Tony Cox of Cryptsoft. “We have fierce commercial competitors working together to demonstrate a truly interoperable specification. Our ability to deliver on this promise highlights the value and robustness of the OASIS process.”

Finalists for the Outstanding Accomplished TC award included Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT), PKCS 11, eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML), and XML Localisation Interchange File Format (XLIFF).

Chosen as the 2015 Outstanding New TC, CXS advances standards for personalized user experiences online. The CXS TC is co-chaired by Thomas Sigdestad of Enonic and Serge Huber of Jahia.

“By enabling companies to better understand their customers, CXS has the potential to revolutionize customer experience, across channels, at a fraction of today’s cost and effort,” says Thomas Sigdestad of Enonic.

“We are proud of this award and will continue to invest through OASIS to ensure that the innovation around digital privacy and ethical use of personal data continues,” says Serge Huber of Jahia. “Privacy and interoperability are critical for big data and user experience management, and CXS is a critical initiative that all software companies should participate in.”

Finalists for the Outstanding New TC award included Content Management Interoperability Services for Digital Asset Management (CMIS4DAM) and Identity Based Attestation and Open Exchange Protocol Specification (IBOPS).

Distinguished Contributors

Each year, OASIS also honors individuals who have made a significant impact as leaders, consensus builders, and evangelists for open standards.

This year’s recipient, Monica Palmirani, is an expert in legal informatics, particularly regarding XML techniques for modeling legal documents, including normative rules and legal ontology. She co-chairs the OASIS LegalDocML (Akoma Ntoso) and the LegalRuleML Technical Committees, serves on the OASIS LegalXML Steering Committee, and is a member of the LegalCiteM Technical Committee.

Fellow Distinguished Contributor, Patrick Durusau, is a standards consultant and topic maps enthusiast. He serves on the OASIS Technical Advisory Board and is editor for the OASIS OpenDocument Technical Committee, co-editor of ISO/IEC 13250 part 5 (Topic Maps Reference Model), and former convener of JTC 1/SC 34/WG 3 (topic maps).
