Subject: Action Item: L&T 2.0 rework

Scott and I have completed the first-pass attempt as the 2.0 rework. The result is available in my dita-learning-training repo fork:

https://github.com/ekimbernow/dita-learning-training/tree/feature/dita-2.0-landt-rework

A couple of important notes about what we did:

  • The original learningDomain is replaced by new learningDomain, which reflects the learning2Domain content models but uses the learningDomain tag names. The learning2 content models are backward compatible with the learning 1 content models, so this should be a transparent change to anyone migrating to DITA 2.0 that uses the original learning 1 tag names.

If someone really wanted to impose the 1.x learningDomain content constraints they could implement constraint modules to do so, but it’s hard to imagine that anyone using the L&T markup seriously would also want the original constraints.

  • To provide tag name compatibility with the 1.x learning2 domains, there is a learning2 domain that is a specialization of the new learningDomain, providing only tag names that end in “2”. This is intended as a short-term migration aid as there’s no reason for anyone to retain the learning2 tag names after migration to DITA 2.0—the migration of existing content should be trivial and would be easily included in a larger 1.x-to-2.0 migration.

I created test case documents for both the RNG and DTD grammars.

Other than the learningDomain reshuffle, there are no intended changes to the L&T design from 1.3, only updates as needed to make a conforming 2.0 set of vocabulary modules.

Cheers,

E.
