1. Introductions

Scott Hudson - working to leverage Tech Pubs content with Training content for Pelco (hardware manufacturer); Key use case: corporate training

Brad Felix - Education publisher working to package DocBook content with assessments; Key use case: "learning content beyond the book". EPub 3 is a huge consideration.

Carl Husa - Instructional designer at University level. Key use case: Leverage content overlap between undergraduate and graduate courses; content reuse is key.

2. Scott provided a brief intro to the overall DocBook eLearning charter, as well as an introduction to the DocBook Assembly format that will be part of the DocBook 5.1 release and how it would apply to eLearning content.

Key resources:

3. Key use cases

Brief intro of existing use cases (http://wiki.oasis-open.org/docbook/eLearningNeeds)

Additional use cases:

  • threaded discussions
  • collaborative activity
  • activity vs. lab exercise?
  • gameification - metadata? Open Badge?
  • credentials - score, leaderboard, trophy?
  • competencies
  • certification

4. Assessments

should we re-invent the wheel and create author-friendly markup, or use an existing standard?

Feeling is that QTI-Lite may be a good fit. Would rather not re-invent the wheel, since there are several tools out there that can output QTI and hide the markup. We could reuse these as existing resources for a resource pool / question pool. Tools such as Respondis?

5. Meeting frequency:

Every 2 weeks on Fridays at 8am Mtn?

All: Make sure you have access to the DocBook wiki and start collaborating ideas there.

All:
* Identify samples of eLearning content we could use in our development
* Review best practices in eLearning structures
* Review: can we use QTI-lite as a namespace ?
* Add use-cases (add qti info from preceding step) for
      slides, handouts, speaker notes,
student manual, instructor manual and lab exercises on the wiki
* Review DITA Learning Subcommittee and think about what we can learn from them.

Proposed Roadmap
a. Review modular DocBook proposals and provide feedback to TC
b. Review best practices in eLearning structures that should be considered for DocBook eLearning.
c. Identify general eLearning needs not currently met by DocBook
d. Identify additional specific domains within the eLearning industry that may need specific modules.
e. develop RFEs from identified needs
f. develop DocBook v5.0 schema enhancements from RFEs
g. submit schema enhancements for approval to DocBook TC
