Description

Please vote Yes if you agree with all of the following. If you disagree, please vote No. If you don't have an opinion, please vote Abstain. I move that: The TC agrees to resolve the following specification issue: VIRTIO-140: add reminder for future devices to avoid writeable 64 bit fields -------------------------------------- Problems happen if any config space action register is wider than 32 bits, because a 32 bit OS cannot now set it atomically. See http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.virtio.devel/791 -------------------------------------- The TC accepts the following proposed changes to the specification: -------------------------------------- [PATCH v2] give explicit guidance on the use of 64 bit fields Just saying 64 bit fields may not be atomic is true, but less helpful than it might be. Add explicit guidance about what the consequences of non-atomicity are Signed-off-by: James Bottomley http://mid.gmane.org/1428868350.2196.40.camel@Odin.com -------------------------------------- The TC agrees to include the above change(s) in specification version(s) "virtio 1.0 cs03", and future versions of the specification. -------------------------------------- Reminder: A Voting Member must be active in a TC to maintain voting rights. As the Virtio TC has adopted a standing rule to conduct business only by electronic ballot, without Meetings, a Voting Member who fails to cast a ballot in two consecutive Work Product Ballots loses his or her voting rights at the close of the second ballot missed. --------------------------------------
