Regular business meeting

Minutes

Minutes from July 10, 2017

Scott brought up the issue on the list that the content model for wintitle was too strict to accommodate "variable text" through keys or conref. One use case to consider is where a trademarked product name gets used in a wintitle. Bob has clients who avoid using wintitle for that reason.

Scott expressed dissatisfaction with how "variable text" is handled in DITA 1.3. He took an action item to put his thoughts together and send them out the DITA TC list.

The bulk of the meeting was spent going through Scott's work with the new hardware domain and the new web services domain. He also presented proposed additions to the programming domain.

Eric pointed out that the additions to the programming domain seemed to parallel earilier work in IBM's donated apirefDomain specialization. Scott took an action item to compare the apirefDomain against his proposed additions the programming domain and then report his findings back to the SC.

Bob expressed angst about the need for DITA 2.0 to simplify constraints so that the proliferation in elements can be more easily managed. He also added that there might be some value in partitioning the proposed programming domain into two or more domains.

Web services domain. We identified the need for an http method element. Scott expressed concern about the element name becoming obsolelet if the protocol were to change from http to something else.

Bob had no progress to report on the troubleshooting feature proposal or the separation of technical content into its own specification.
