The OASIS Symposium on the Future of XML Vocabularies

Successful business integration relies on agreement between parties on the vocabularies that define the messages they exchange, and the understanding of both the syntax and semantics of the exchanges.

The application of formal semantics has gained momentum. Significant effort is being invested in developing and evolving vocabularies intended for cross-industry use. Industry-vertical domains are developing and evolving their own vocabularies outside and inside the XML arena. Developers and designers have learned (and are continuing to learn) important lessons about the evolution of vocabularies.
