30-day Public Review for XML Testing and Event-driven Monitoring of Processes (XTemp) Version 1.0

The OASIS Testing and Monitoring Internet Exchanges (TaMIE) TC [1] members have recently approved a Committee Specification Draft (CSD) and submitted this specification for 30-day public review:

XML Testing and Event-driven Monitoring of Processes (XTemp) Version 1.0
Committee Specification Draft 01 / Public Review Draft 01
03 October 2011

Specification Overview:
XTemp is an XML mark-up language that is event-centric and intended for the analysis of sequence of events that represent traces of business processes. It is designed for both log analysis and real-time execution. It leverages XPath and XSLT.

TC Description:
The objective of the TC is to assist and standardize the monitoring and testing of message-based transactions or of business process behaviors, by analyzing XML-formatted traces of these processes. The goal is to allow better portability of test or monitoring scripts, and broader availability of related scripting skills. The XTemp specification has learned from past XML-based test scripting (from ebXML IIC, KorBIT testbed, NIST and WS-I) and applies an event-centric paradigm to analyze traces of business processes or message exchanges. The resulting specification is leveraging XML processing (XPath, XSLT) in order to handle advanced event correlation and computations (logic, metrics). Details about XML leverage are explained in a paper: http://www.balisage.net/Proceedings/vol7/html/Durand01/BalisageVol7-Durand01.html

Public Review Period:

The public review starts Friday, 7 October 2011 and ends Monday, 7 November 2011.

Members Approve OpenDocument Format (ODF) Version 1.2 as OASIS Standard

5 Oct 2011–Members of the OASIS international standards consortium have approved version 1.2 of the OpenDocument Format (ODF) as an OASIS Standard, a status that signifies the highest level of ratification. ODF defines an application- and platform-independent file format for text documents, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, drawings, charts, and similar documents. The new version of ODF delivers many enhancements called for by the international community including support for digital signatures, semantic web technology, and the OpenFormula spreadsheet language. “We like that ODF has been developed through an open, inclusive process—one that welcomes government participation and input—and that there are many products which support ODF, so vendor lock-in is not a concern,” said Peter Strickx, CTO Fedict, the agency responsible for developing and implementing e-gov strategy in Belgium. “As a vivid promoter of open standards, Fedict welcomes ODF 1.2 and encourages vendors to implement this specification on various platforms, ensuring ‘universal’ (any device/any OS) information accessibility both in the short term and long term.” “Version 1.2 is an important milestone in the evolution of the OpenDocument OASIS Standard,” said Rob Weir, chair of the OASIS OpenDocument Technical Committee. “ODF 1.2 is the product of a multi-year collaboration among commercial software vendors, governments, open source projects and the de jure standards community. We’re pleased to offer implementors and their users a revised ODF specification, with additional capabilities, as well as interoperability, accessibility and security enhancements.” The ODF 1.0 OASIS Standard was previously approved as an International Standard, ISO/IEC 26300:2006. ODF 1.1 is currently undergoing ballot in ISO/IEC JTC 1. The OASIS ODF Technical Committee expects to start the process of submitting ODF 1.2 to JTC 1 soon. Several open source projects are actively engaged in the OASIS ODF work including Apache OpenOffice.org, Calligra Suite, LibreOffice, AbiWord and Gnumeric. Participation in the OASIS ODF Technical Committee, ODF Interoperability and Conformance Committee, and the ODF Adoption Committee is open to all interested parties. Archives of the Committees’ work are accessible to both members and non-members, and OASIS invites public review and comment. Support for OpenDocument 1.2 IBM “IBM welcomes the newly approved OpenDocument Format 1.2 standard. We believe that successful open standards, such as ODF 1.2, are effective drivers of software interoperability and provide the foundation for industry innovation. Open standards such as ODF 1.2 level the playing field, and generate increased competition by providing consumers and businesses with valuable new choices.” — Angel Diaz, vice president of open standards, IBM Microsoft Corp. “As an OASIS Foundational Sponsor, Microsoft is pleased to see the approval of ODF 1.2, which Microsoft participated in and supported. This is an important milestone for the ODF format and the ODF community.” — Doug Mahugh, Senior Standards Professional, Microsoft Nokia “Nokia is pleased to see the approval of ODF 1.2 as an OASIS Standard. We use ODF 1.2 in our MeeGo-based N9 Device mobile office application. The mobile office engine comes from Calligra, an open source project that implements ODF 1.2, a project we have contributed to.” — Frederick Hirsch, Senior Architect, Nokia Additional information: OASIS OpenDocument Technical Committee OASIS OpenDocument Adoption Committee OASIS OpenDocument Interoperability and Conformance Committee OpenDocument XML.org Community Site ODF Plugfest interoperability event About OASIS: OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) is a not-for-profit, international consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of open standards for the global information society. 15-day Public Review for Energy Market Information Exchange (EMIX) Version 1.0

The OASIS Energy Market Information Exchange (eMIX) TC [1] members have produced an updated Committee Specification Draft (CSD) and submitted this specification for 15-day public review:

Energy Market Information Exchange (EMIX) Version 1.0
Committee Specification Draft 04 / Public Review 04
08 September 2011

Specification Overview:
This specification defines an information model and XML vocabulary for the interoperable and standard exchange of prices and product definitions in transactive energy markets:

* Price information
* Bid information
* Time for use or availability
* Units and quantity to be traded
* Characteristics of what is traded

This specification is one of three related OASIS technical works in progress. For a graphical view of the relationships, see http://collaborate.nist.gov/twikisggrid/bin/view/SmartGridEMIXissuesPage on the NIST Smart Grid collaborative site.

(a) Web Services Calendar 1.0 (WS-Calendar Technical Committee page is http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/ws-calendar) is the common XML vocabulary for expressing schedules. EMIX uses this vocabulary to express energy schedules and prices; implementers and other standards are also using the WS-Calendar Committee Specification 1.0.

(b) Energy Market Information Exchange 1.0 (EMIX Technical Committee page is http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/emix) is the TC that has approved this public review. EMIX is the common XML vocabulary for expressing market information including tenders, market transactions, prices and product definitions for implementers and other standards. EMIX uses the WS-Calendar vocabulary to express schedule information, and the EMIX vocabulary is used by Energy Interoperation and other standards and implementations.

(c) Energy Interoperation 1.0 (Energy Interoperation Technical Committee page is http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/energyinterop) is the common XML vocabulary for expressing curtailment events, price communication, as well as Web services definitions for interactions using the information payloads. The Energy Interoperation TC is planning its third Public Review in September 2011.

Please refer to line numbers in the PDF version of the specification when providing comments.

TC Description:
The OASIS Energy Market Information Exchange (eMIX) TC was chartered to define standards for exchanging energy characteristics, availability, and schedules to support the free and effective exchange of information. Better communication of actionable energy prices will help enable and expand efficient markets that satisfy the growing demand for lower-carbon, lower-energy buildings, net zero-energy systems, and supply-demand integration that take advantage of dynamic pricing. The TC has addressed requirements consolidated by NAESB and the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel’s Priority Action Plan 03 Working Group.

Direct participants have included representatives of Southern California Edison, the ISO-RTO Council, California ISO, Midwest ISO, New York ISO, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Enernex, UISOL, members of the UCAIug OpenADR Task Force, the OpenADR Alliance, and representatives of the National Institute of Science and Technology, Schneider Electric, Siemens AG, EPRI, OATi, The Open Geospatial Consortium, LonMark International, Lockheed Martin, EnerNOC, Trane, CPower, Microsoft, JPMorganChase, TIBCO, University of North Carolina, Alstom Power, and experts in energy markets and in cross-domain integration and information modeling.

This work is closely related to OASIS WS-Calendar 1.0 and OASIS Energy Interoperation 1.0.
