Position Overview:
OASIS Open is seeking a proactive and results-driven Director of Business Development and Partnerships to spearhead initiatives that serve and enhance the organization’s membership and influence. This role will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and promoting OASIS Open’s reputation globally. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the open source and open standards landscape.
Depending on the candidate, this position may also help to lead our communications team and enhance our outreach initiatives in support of our strategic growth goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Membership Development: Identify, engage, and recruit members for new and existing OASIS projects across a wide range of technology areas and industries.
- Proposal Development: Prepare and present compelling proposals and presentations to potential partners and members, showcasing the value of joining and starting projects at OASIS Open.
- Partnership Management: Cultivate strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and other associations to encourage collaboration, new projects, and joint initiatives.
- Opportunity Identification: Assist the Executive Director, Board Directors and staff peers in researching and identifying areas where new projects are needed. Reach out to experts in those areas, promoting the advantages of working within OASIS.
- Market Analysis: Identify market trends and research the competitive landscape to inform business strategies and identify emerging opportunities for the organization.
- Program Development: Work with the Standards Development team to design and implement programs and initiatives that enhance current member engagement, participation, and value.
- Advocacy and Outreach: Working closely with, or depending on the candidate, oversee the marketing and events team in their efforts to raise awareness of OASIS with key stakeholders and the broader community. Promote the participation of current OASIS members, so they are recognized in the industry for their contributions.
- Performance Tracking: Work with the Executive Director and CFO to establish revenue targets. Execute business development efforts to meet those targets. Utilize tracking for contacts, leads, new projects, and follow-up. Report on progress to the Board of Directors and senior management.
- Thought Leadership: Represent OASIS Open at industry events, conferences, and meetings, establishing contacts with potential members and promoting the organization’s mission and values.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- 7+ years of experience in business development, sales, or related roles in the technology sector.
- Proven track record of successfully identifying and securing business opportunities and partnerships and meeting new revenue goals.
- Strong understanding of open standards, open source, technology policy, and industry dynamics.
- Existing network with influencers and decision makers in technology industries, including AI and cybersecurity.
- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, with a focus on collaboration and results-oriented approaches.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment, and to supervise others.
