XML Interchange Language for System Dynamics (#XMILE) Version 1.0 Committee Specification 01 published

OASIS is pleased to announce the approval and publication of a new Committee Specification by the members of the OASIS XML Interchange Language (XMILE) for System Dynamics TC:

XML Interchange Language for System Dynamics (XMILE) Version 1.0
Committee Specification 01
29 October 2014

Overview:

The XML Interchange Language (XMILE) for System Dynamics (SD) defines an open XML protocol for the sharing, interoperability, and reuse of SD models and simulations. This document describes the XMILE language and format anyone who wishes to use SD models or embed them in their applications, such as vendors of SD software, Big Data, cloud, mobile, and social media solutions, as well as end users and consultants in the SD field.

Description of the TC:

Members of the OASIS XML Interchange Language (XMILE) for System Dynamics TC are working to develop an open XML protocol for sharing interoperable SD models and simulations. The work builds upon SMILE, a descriptive, DYNAMO-based language; the XMILE specification itself encodes SMILE in XML.

XMILE will enable System Dynamics models to be reused with Big Data sets to show how different policies produce different outcomes in complex environments. Models may be stored in cloud-based libraries, shared within and between organizations, and used to communicate different outcomes with common vocabulary. XMILE will also support the integration of system dynamics models and simulations into mainstream analytics software.

Using XMILE, online repositories may be created to model common business decisions. ISVs will be able to develop new tools that help businesses understand models and simulations. XMILE also enables the development of standards-based applications for mobile technologies and social media.

Members of the OASIS XML Interchange Language (XMILE) for System Dynamics TC [1] approved this specification by Special Majority Vote. The specification had been released for public review as required by the TC Process [2]. The vote to approve as a Committee Specification passed [3], and the document is now available online in the OASIS Library as referenced above.

Our congratulations to the TC on achieving this milestone and our thanks to the reviewers who provided feedback on the specification drafts to help improve the quality of the work.
