OASIS Forms OSLC Core Technical Committee to Develop Standards for Lifecycle Integration
12 December 2013 – Members of the OASIS open standards consortium have launched the first in a series of Technical Committees that will standardize the way software lifecycle tools share data based on OSLC (Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration) specifications. OSLC Core will define the foundational work to enable products and network resources from different vendors, open source projects and even homegrown components to interoperate successfully. OSLC is becoming a key strategic technology for organizations whose lifecycle processes are implemented across heterogeneous tools. OSLC can be applied in a variety of domains from ALM and PLM to DevOps and cloud, from mobile to social to big data and analytics.
"The cost of integrating tools is currently borne by customers; this is a massive waste as it is the same work repeated multiple times. The use of a standard which tool vendors can support out of the box benefits all tool customers. OSLC is already gaining a momentum in engineering industries and its use in enterprise IT through wider adoption within ALM is to be welcomed. Ideally users need standards for both linking and synchronization, OSLC is an important step on that path, it will help reduce errors and costs," observed Michael Azoff, Principal Analyst, Ovum.

OSLC addresses domain scenarios such as change management, configuration management, embedded systems, requirements management, performance monitoring, quality management, estimation and measurement, asset management, automation, reporting, and reconciliation. It also supports core enterprise integrations exemplified by cross-domain scenarios such as Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Integrated Service Management (ISM). Additional OASIS Technical Committees focusing on these domain and cross-domain areas will be formed in the coming months.

New members are encouraged to join the OASIS OSLC Core Technical Committee at any time. Archives of the work are accessible to both members and non-members, and OASIS invites public review and comment on the work.
