Monica Palmirani

Monica Palmirani was recognized as an OASIS Distinguished Contributor in 2015. She co-chairs the OASIS LegalDocML and the LegalRuleML Technical Committees, serves on the OASIS LegalXML Steering Committee and is a member of the LegalCiteM Technical Committee. Monica represents the University of Bologna CIRSFID, one of the main centers of excellence in Italy and one of the leading centers at the international level for the area of computer science and law. Monica is well recognized as a leader in the legal informatics community with particular regard to XML techniques for modeling legal documents both in structure and legal knowledge aspects, including normative rules and legal ontology. She is expert of legal drafting techniques supported by ICT and she manages several research projects (e.g., High Court of Cassation of Italy, Senate of Italy, Uruguay Parliament, Chamber of Chile, European Parliament, Inter-America Bank for Development, United Nations) to improve legal quality, democracy, transparency and open government data model. Monica is an Associate professor of Computer Science and Law at Bologna University, School of Law. (In Dec. 2013, she passed the national evaluation for becoming full professor.) She has a degree in Mathematics, and a Ph.D. in Legal Informatics and IT Law. She teaches several courses on Legal Informatics, eGovernment, Legal drafting techniques, and Legal XML. She published more than 70 papers and she is chair of several international conferences, editor of book series and member of the scientific committee of AI and Law Journal.
