60-day review for #TOSCA Simple Profile in #YAML V1.0 – ends Nov. 25th

Members of the OASIS Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications (TOSCA) TC [1] have recently approved a Special Majority Ballot [2] to advance TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML Version 1.0 as a Candidate OASIS Standard (COS). The COS now enters a 60-day public review period in preparation for a member ballot to consider its approval as an OASIS Standard.

TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML Version 1.0
Candidate OASIS Standard 01
17 August 2016

What is the TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML and why is it important?

The TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML specifies a rendering of TOSCA which aims to provide a more accessible syntax as well as a more concise and incremental expressiveness of the TOSCA DSL (Domain Specific Language) in order to minimize the learning curve and speed the adoption of the use of TOSCA to portably describe cloud applications.

YAML is a human friendly data serialization standard with a syntax much easier to read and edit than XML. This specification prescribes an isomorphic rendering of a subset of TOSCA to ensure that semantics are preserved and can be transformed from XML to YAML and from YAML to XML. As there are a number of DSLs encoded in YAML, a YAML encoding of the TOSCA DSL makes TOSCA more accessible by these communities.

Eight Statements of Use were received from Vnomic, Politecnico di Milano, IBM, Wipro, Gigaspaces, FastConnect, Ubicity, and SINTEF [3].

Public Review Period:

The 60-day public review starts 27 September 2016 at 00:00 UTC and ends 25 November 2016 at 23:59 UTC.

This is an open invitation to comment. OASIS solicits feedback from potential users, developers and others, whether OASIS members or not, for the sake of improving the interoperability and quality of its technical work.
