30-day Public Review for Authentication Step-Up Protocol and Metadata Version 1.0 – ends January 21st, 2016

The OASIS Electronic Identity Credential Trust Elevation Methods (Trust Elevation) TC [1] members have recently approved a Committee Specification Draft (CSD) and submitted it for 30-day public review:

Authentication Step-Up Protocol and Metadata Version 1.0
Committee Specification Draft 01 / Public Review Draft 01
12 November 2015

Overview:

Electronic Identity Credential Trust Elevation Methods are used to increase assurance in entity identification using authentication events and related entity information for the purpose of risk mitigation when making access control policy decisions.
The goals of this Fourth Deliverable are:
· To propose simple Trust Elevation architectural patterns demonstrating the use of Trust Elevation in modern Access Control architectures.
· To describe a common metadata set, mechanisms and protocol elements for Trust Elevation information exchanges.
· To promote the use of Trust Elevation elements to facilitate standardization among the many technologies and approaches currently in use for credential & authentication risk mitigation.

TC Description:

The OASIS Trust Elevation TC works to define a set of standardized protocols that service providers may use to elevate the trust in an electronic identity credential presented to them for authentication. The Trust Elevation TC is intended to respond to suggestions from the public sector, including the U.S. National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC). The Trust Elevation TC promotes interoperability among multiple identity providers–and among multiple identity federations and frameworks–by facilitating clear communication about common and comparable operations to present, evaluate and apply identity [data/assertions] to sets of declared authorization levels.

For more information, see the TC Charter and FAQ.

Public Review Period:

The public review starts 22 December 2015 at 23:59 GMT and ends 21 January 2016 at 23:59 GMT.

This is an open invitation to comment. OASIS solicits feedback from potential users, developers and others, whether OASIS members or not, for the sake of improving the interoperability and quality of its technical work.

Cryptsoft Supports Open Standards by Becoming OASIS Foundational Sponsor

18 December 2015 — The OASIS international open standards consortium welcomes Cryptsoft, a provider of cryptographic and enterprise key management solutions, as its newest Foundational Sponsor. Cryptsoft joins IBM and Microsoft in supporting the mission of OASIS at the highest level.

“Cryptsoft is a true OASIS success story,” said Laurent Liscia, CEO and executive director of OASIS. “When Cryptsoft joined our organization five years ago, they quickly took on a leadership role, shepherding technical development, promoting interoperability, and sharing ideas with other members. They were instrumental in the growth of several major security standards, and in the process, their company grew to become a leader in the cryptographic market.”

Cryptsoft applies its expertise in cryptographic and enterprise key management technologies, helping to drive several OASIS standards initiatives, including the Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) Technical Committee and the Public-Key Cryptography Standard #11 (PKCS#11) Technical Committee.

“As a major OEM technology supplier, Cryptsoft is aware that the OASIS KMIP and PKCS #11 standards are the preferred key management and cryptographic capability foundations for enterprise data security implementations. Major changes in the enterprise storage and security trust landscape have significantly increased demand for interoperable open standards-based solutions that facilitate management insight and control of data and cryptographic devices. Developing conformant solutions under the banner of OASIS has helped to ensure that these demands are verifiably and securely met without sacrificing any interoperability,” said Tim Hudson, CTO & Technical Director at Cryptsoft.

“OASIS is a critical body for developing and maintaining standards in the ever changing security field and Cryptsoft looks forward to increasing our involvement in appropriate technical committees to drive clear standards for implementing relevant security in tomorrow’s enterprises,” said Greg Scott, CEO at Cryptsoft.

— Information about the Candidate OASIS Standard —

This Candidate OASIS Standard defines an open XML protocol (XMILE) for the sharing, interoperability, and reuse of System Dynamics models and simulations.

System Dynamics is an interactive environment for simulating the impact of policy on complex ecosystems. The benefits of this standard are:

* System Dynamics models can be re-used with Big Data sets to show how different policies produce different outcomes in complex environments.

* Models can be stored in cloud-based libraries, shared within and between organizations, and used to communicate different outcomes with common vocabulary.

* Model components can be re-used and plugged into other simulations.

* It allows the creation of online repositories modeling many common business decisions.

* It increases acceptance and use of System Dynamics as a discipline.

* It helps ISVs make new tools that help businesses to develop and understand models and simulations.

* It enables vendors to develop standards-based applications for new markets such as mobile and social media.

#OData Extension for Data Aggregation Version 4.0 Committee Specification 02 is published

OASIS is pleased to announce the approval and publication of a new Committee Specification by the members of the OASIS Open Data Protocol (OData) TC:

OData Extension for Data Aggregation Version 4.0
Committee Specification 02
04 November 2015

Overview:

This specification adds basic grouping and aggregation functionality (e.g. sum, min, and max) to the Open Data Protocol (OData) without changing any of the base principles of OData.

Description of the TC:

The OASIS OData TC works to simplify the querying and sharing of data across disparate applications and multiple stakeholders for re-use in the enterprise, Cloud, and mobile devices. A REST-based protocol, OData builds on HTTP, AtomPub, and JSON using URIs to address and access data feed resources. It enables information to be accessed from a variety of sources including (but not limited to) relational databases, file systems, content management systems, and traditional Web sites. OData provides a way to break down data silos and increase the shared value of data by creating an ecosystem in which data consumers can interoperate with data producers in a way that is far more powerful than currently possible, enabling more applications to make sense of a broader set of data. Every producer and consumer of data that participates in this ecosystem increases its overall value.

Members of the OASIS Open Data Protocol (OData) TC [1] approved this specification by Special Majority Vote. The specification had been released for public review as required by the TC Process [2]. The vote to approve as a Committee Specification passed [3], and the document is now available online in the OASIS Library as referenced above.

Our congratulations to the TC on achieving this milestone and our thanks to the reviewers who provided feedback on the specification drafts to help improve the quality of the work.
